Case design at Paulin usually begins with a set of technical considerations alongside our aesthetic goals.

For the Modul, we had initially sourced a range of vintage movements in small and irregular quantities, and were limited by case manufacturers’ high minimum order quantities. To combat this problem and allow us to be agile in responding to customers’ changing needs, we created a case with a modular inner component that can be adjusted to accommodate different movements.

For both the Modul and Neo, the box-section crystal reduces the thickness of the case and adds to their distinctive, vintage aesthetic. Our sapphire crystals are machined from larger sheets of sapphire, while the hesalite version is cast from a mould and polished. You can read more about the difference between the two on our blog.

Our watch cases are made using 316L stainless steel, a surgical grade that is highly resistant to corrosion. Our manufacturer, Chung Nam Watch, was founded in 1935 and works with many high-end watch brands. With its incredible attention to detail and willingness to try new things, Chung Nam Watch is one of our favourite partners.

We have transferred much of the sampling process in-house to minimise factory samples, which can be costly, wasteful and slow. Our engineer, Euan, creates 3D-printed prototypes with which we can test comfort, fit, and even assembly.
