History
The brand was founded in 2013 by Charlotte, Eleanor and Elizabeth Paulin. Growing from a spare bedroom to having multiple shopfronts, we established ourselves as a familiar fixture in Glasgow. When the original founders decided to move on, the company was taken on by anOrdain, and we now share a purpose-built production and studio space in Glasgow’s Southside.
2013–2015
Paulin’s first official home was a studio and shop in the centre of Glasgow. Meeting customers was vital in helping us to develop our early range and establish a presence in the community. Our first watch, the S75, was released in 2013, followed by the Chronograph and Commuter.
2016–2019
Our creative director, Imogen, joined the company in 2016 and began developing our first bespoke typeface, Geo. A recent graduate of Glasgow School of Art, Imogen used Art Deco references in homage to the Glaswegian architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
The growing team meant we needed more space, and we opened a concept store in Glasgow’s West End stocking favourite local brands including Trakke bags and Risotto stationery.
In 2017, we released the Commuter Numerical and Geo Mini watches, the first to feature the Geo typeface. These were followed by our first mechanical watch, the Commuter Automatic, and our wall clock, which would go on to become an enduring success.
In 2018, we also opened our doors to Edinburgh for the first time with a store in Stockbridge, where we also hosted exhibitions and events.
2020–2022
In 2020 we released the Neo, our first collaboration with anOrdain. This partnership marked a turning point in Paulin’s design, moving away from a minimalist aesthetic and leaning into more playful, midcentury inspirations. It was a hit with our customers, and brought Paulin to a wider, international audience. It also introduced a new focus on craft, with hand-dyed anodised dials made in Scotland and printed in-house by the anOrdain team.
Despite the success of the Neo, the effects of Covid on high-street shopping meant we made the decision to close our store and move entirely to online retail.
2023–2025
By 2023, all three Paulin sisters had left the company to focus on their families and new creative pursuits. This prompted us to restructure the team and formally join our friends at anOrdain, owned by Charlotte’s husband, Lewis Heath. Imogen took on the role of creative director and oversaw a visual rebranding.
With this rebranding came new additions to our core collection and a series of collaborations. We moved all of our assembly in-house to a watchmaking team shared with anOrdain, and improved our production processes.
2026–
Today, the team is looking ahead. Our approach is ambitious, and we’re constantly looking for ways to push ourselves aesthetically and technically. We’re focused on making a series of new products that celebrate innovation, with the sense of play that Paulin has become known for.
